Der Mercedes 250SL ist eher seltener zu sehen als die Baureihen 230SL oder 280SL, obwohl diese am ausgeglichensten fährt. Darum freuten wir uns auch auf die Motorüberholung mit Zustand1 für diesen Oldtimer.
Eine Besonderheit bietet der Motor M129, denn er ist von Haus aus mit einem zusätzlichen Ölkühler unterhalb der Eispritzpumpe ausgestattet. Und durch die Achsübersetzung hat das Cabrio mit dem 2,5er einen sehr guten Antritt. Ebenfalls ist der 250SL mit Scheibenbremsen an der Hinterachse ausgestattet und steht dem 280er auch sonst in nichts nach. Bei diesem Motor war leider der Motorblock gerissen: Wir hatten zum Glück noch ein passendes Kurbelgehäuse in unserem Bestand und konnten damit diesen Motor „retten“. Die Zylinder wurden gebohrt und gehont, ebenso die Kurbelwelle geschliffen, poliert und gewuchtet.
Mit neuen Lagern, neuem Kettensatz und einem fabrikneuen Zylinderkopf geht es bald wieder auf die Straße! Dieser Motor wurde auch in 250SE verbaut. Und als Vergaser ist er beinahe baugleich im 250S bekannt

The 250SL Pagoda is seen less frequently than the 230SL or 280SL series, although it drives the most balanced. That’s why we were excited about the EngineOverhaul with Condition1 for this ClassicCar.
A unique feature of the M129 engine is that it comes equipped from the factory with an additional oil cooler below the water injection pump. Thanks to the axle ratio, the convertible with the 2.5-liter engine has a very good acceleration. The 250SL is also equipped with disc brakes on the rear axle and is in no way inferior to the 280SL. Unfortunately, the engine block was cracked in this motor: Fortunately, we had a matching crankcase in our inventory and were able to „save“ this engine. The cylinders were bored and honed, and the crankshaft was ground, polished, and balanced.
With new bearings, a new timing chain kit, and a brand-new cylinder head, it will soon be back on the road! This engine was also installed in the 250SE. And as a carburetor, it is almost identical in the 250S.
