Motorüberholung M117 – Mercedes 450SL – 5,0 W107
Ein Loch im Motorblock ist eigentlich ein „Aus“ für jeden Motor. Aber auch in diesem Fall tun wir, was uns möglich ist. Vor allem bei einem M117.960 stellte sich uns die Herausforderung die entsprechenden Ersatzteile einzubauen, da dieser Motor sehr selten ist und zum Getriebe passen muss.
Glücklicherweise wurde ein Ersatz für den defekten Motorblock gefunden und konnte mit neuem Kurbelgehäuse und neuen Pleuelstangen zu einen passenden Motor aufgebaut werden. Ebenso kamen neu zum Einsatz: Kolben, Lager, Auslass- und Einlassventile und Steuerkette. Zum Schluss strahlt der Motor nicht nur in neuem Glanz, sondern läuft auch wieder wie am Schnürchen!
Der M117 Motor wurde auch im Mercedes 560SL verbaut. Und ebenfalls als kleinere Version im 350SL und 380SL, sowie in Limousinen wie den 500SE, 500SEL und 500SEC.

Mercedes 450SL – 5.0 W107
A hole in the engine block is usually a „game over“ for any engine. But in this case, we do what is possible. Especially with an M117.960, we faced the challenge of fitting the corresponding replacement parts, as this engine is very rare and must match the transmission.
Fortunately, a replacement for the defective engine block was found and could be assembled into a suitable engine with a new crankcase and new connecting rods. Also, new components such as pistons, bearings, exhaust and intake valves, and a timing chain were used. In the end, the engine not only shines in a new light but also runs smoothly again!
The M117 engine was also used in the Mercedes 560SL. Also, as a smaller version in the 350SL and 380SL, as well as in sedans like the 500SE, 500SEL, and 500SEC.
We look forward to the SL starting the convertible season right on time for the Springbreak!
